The Oxford Business Climate Change Pledge:
We recognise that:
- Climate change is happening now
- Climate change will have far reaching effects on our economy, society and environment
- We have a part to play in reducing the overall impact of our operations on the environment
Within the next year we will act on some or all of the following:
- Conduct a robust assessment of CO2 emissions from our own operations. Set an emissions reduction target against this baseline (e.g 3% year on year reduction) and commit to report annually on progress.
- Draw up a climate change action plan and appoint a key person within our organisation to help implement and drive this forward (and obtain senior level buy-in).
- Reduce CO2 from own operations – especially related to energy sourcing and use (e.g. switch to a green tariff), travel (e.g. implement a green travel plan) and transport (e.g. switch to biofuels), waste production (e.g. move towards paperless offices) and disposal (i.e. reduce, reuse, recycle).
- Reduce, reuse and manage water consumption from our own operations.
- Source greener supplies and suppliers.
- Encourage employees to sign and commit to the Oxford Citizens' Climate Change Pledge.
- Consider adaptation issues to climate change – how is it going to impact on our organisation (and how can we plan ahead to deal with the consequences – flood, drought, heat-wave, infrastructure issues)?
